Disneyland Summer 2015 Part 1- Getting Started!

My family and I headed back to Disneyland this summer to see the 60th Anniversary Celebration. The kids and I haven’t been to Disneyland in three years so we were all super excited to be back. I definitely think of Disneyland as my home park. It’s always special to be able to visit.

This trip was very special because it included my parents, both my brothers and their girlfriends, my sister and her husband, my aunt, and almost all my nieces and nephews. There were 17 of us in all. It was a lot of fun to be able to hang out in the parks with all of my family even if at sometimes they thought I was crazy but we’ll get to those parts.

We were in the parks June 1-June 3. The parks were pretty crowded in the afternoon but mornings were pretty nice. With 17 people this was not a ride heavy trip. We didn’t always hang out together either. But we met up at meal times or to ride certain rides together. Nothing like telling the CM’s party of 17 when you head up to a ride but it was a lot of fun.

We tried to hit as many rides as possible but didn’t stress if we missed anything. Normally I would want to spend at least five days visiting Disneyland but since this was a trip during our PCS I had to keep the cost reasonable so we used the Three Day Military Park Hopper ticket. Thankfully we have enough Retired and Active Duty Military to buy each person in our party a ticket.

We started off in Downtown Disney after checking into our hotel. We stayed at Anaheim Islander Inn, which is located on Katella across from the Cheesecake Factory and Bubba Gump’s. It wasn’t too bad of a walk. About 15 minutes to the bag check for us (kids age 12, 10, and 7) depending on how long you may have to wait for lights. We mainly stayed at the Anaheim Islander because of the price. With the 60th Anniversary Celebration going on staying on site was not going to be an option for the 17 of us. At this hotel they have rooms that have two queen beds and a set of bunk beds (which the kids loved!).   So we had two rooms with bunk beds and two rooms that had just two queen beds each. The hotel was clean and felt very safe. My Aunt walked back and forth to the parks alone most days and was safe. They also offer a military rate, which is always nice.

We ate as a group at Tortilla Joes. They accommodated our large group nicely, since we walked up in the early afternoon and were able to secure a reservation for 5:30. The food was very good. After shopping we headed back to the hotel early so we could hit the parks early the next morning.
