Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration is happening this summer. 60 years seems like such a long time to be celebrating on one hand but also like it is not enough considering how many people have visited the parks and made magical memories there.
The 60th Anniversary is important to me because I attended the 50th Anniversary celebration 10 years ago. I was fortunate enough to be able to travel from Florida and take my daughter Madison for her First Disneyland trip that year. At the time I was not aware that it was the fiftieth year but once we were there we were able to take advantage of some of the special souvenirs.
Here is my daughter with her first pair of Mickey Ears:
And just because we cannot leave him out here is a picture of my son, Michael from the same trip. He was three.
Now we have an opportunity to return to Disneyland for the 60th Anniversary and I cannot wait. What started as a simple trip before we headed off for our adventure of PCSing to England has turned into a family reunion! My parents, my two brothers, and my sister are meeting up in Anaheim. As a complete military family we are spread across the country and have been since we all left my parents house, this will be the first time that we have all been together for a vacation in a long time and what better place to meet up then Mickey’s house?
Here is a picture from 1989. We are missing my brother, David, probably off getting ice cream. This was my sister and I’s first trip to Disneyland and I will never forget it.
After 26 years and more Disneyland trips than I can count now here we are about to head back and Disneyland has some great shows planned for the 60th Anniversary and I cannot wait to see them.
First they are updating the Fireworks show to Disneyland Forever Fireworks. I really enjoy seeing Fireworks on Main Street. I’m not sure anything will top the emotions I felt after seeing Remember…Dreams Come True for the first time. Hopefully this show is just as heart warming.
World of Color at Disney California Adventure is also changing. Neil Patrick Harris and Mickey Mouse will be narrating an all new show which focuses on Walt Disney’s journey from his earliest creations to Disneyland and beyond. This will also be on my must do list.
If that wasn’t enough a brand new night time parade is coming to Disneyland too. “Paint the Night Parade” will debut. With over 1 million lights Paint the Night Parade promises to be the biggest parade in the history of the park. Many of everyone’s favorite characters will light up the night including Rapunzel, Anna, Elsa, Mike, Sulley and more.
The Mad Tea Party is returning in California Adventure as the Diamond Mad T Party. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and Carthay Circle Theatre will glisten for the celebration also. The parks will be filled with treats and souvenirs exclusive to the 60th Anniversary. It will be a celebration not to be missed and it all begins on May 22, 2015.
